Making Memories Since 1981

Doug Traina starts TEI, later branded as Best in Boating Marinas, in 1981 with the purchase of Park Marina on Lake Allatoona (Georgia). Doug moves into a small home on the property and hires his first employee. Over the years, Best in Boating grows and expands into a vertically integrated marina company with 6 marinas across Georgia and Indiana.

Pelican Pete's (Lake Lanier, GA)

Doug is convinced by members of his team to create a "hot dog stand" as an amenity to his marina customers at Port Royale Marina. A business plan is hand-drawn on a napkin with humble goals in mind.

Pelican Pete’s opens its doors to instant success. To keep up with demand, TEI completes a series of expansions. Today, Pete’s is the number 1 restaurant on Lake Lanier, serving classic American fare, live music all day, and summer-inspired cocktails.

The Dock at Crayton Cove (Naples, FL)

Dan Groom-Traina quits his job in NYC to join TEI, leading to the purchase of The Dock at Crayton Cove (est. 1976), the second oldest restaurant in Naples and a local landmark.

In the following years, TEl renovates and breathes new life into The Dock, complementing the iconic space with a world-class bar program and elevated food menu. Today, The Dock is one of the most successful restaurants in Naples.

TEI Hospitality is Born

TEI formally brands its restaurant division as TEI Hospitality, which focuses on iconic, timeless restaurants that hold a special place in their respective communities.

Mill Wharf (Scituate, MA)

TEI purchases The Mill Wharf Restaurant, a shining beacon on Scituate Harbor with panoramic views of the Atlantic Ocean.

Serving classic New England fare and an award-winning lobster roll, The Mill Wharf encapsulates the true essence of Northeast summers and the emotions of Americana.

Ray's Restaurants (Atlanta, GA)

Ray Schoenbaum, legendary Atlanta restaurateur, decides to retire and pass the baton of Ray's Restaurants, which includes Ray's on the River, Ray's in the City, and Ray's at Killer Creek, to TEI Hospitality.

Ray's serves fresh seafood, prime steaks, classic cocktails, and fine wines paired with exceptional service.
